The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, says the reintroduction of the tribunal courts system is intended to improve access to justice for ordinary Ghanaians and strengthen the country's justice delivery system.

The Tribunals Bill, 2026, which is currently at the Second Reading Stage in Parliament, seeks to provide a legal framework for the establishment, jurisdiction, composition and operation of tribunals, as well as establish a Tribunal Oversight Committee.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Dr. Ayine said the tribunals will complement the existing court structure and help reduce the growing backlog of cases by providing additional avenues for resolving legal matters.

The proposed system has generated debate in Parliament, with the Minority raising concerns over possible misuse, while government insists adequate safeguards will ensure the tribunals operate within constitutional provisions.
