West African leaders pledge $1bn to fight armed groups

An emergency summit organised by ECOWAS brought together the heads of state from the Sahel countries known as the G5, as well as West African countries affected by armed groups such as Boko Haram. The countries agreed to share intelligence, form joint patrols along the borders and invest in training for security forces. There have been more than 2,000 attacks in the Sahel region in the last few years and just over 11,000 people have been killed. Al Jazeera's Catherine Soi reports from Ouagadougou.
