Canada's first Indigenous professional footballer inspires a new generation in Sts'ailes

Terry Felix made history as Canada's first Indigenous professional footballer, representing the Vancouver Whitecaps, the Canadian Olympic team, and the national side — achievements that remain unmatched more than four decades on. A career-ending knee injury at 24 cut short his playing days, but Felix has since dedicated himself to coaching and mentoring young players in the remote First Nations community of Sts'ailes, British Columbia. Today, with a new mini-pitch, a 44-team annual youth tournament, and players reaching elite academies, his legacy is reshaping what football means for Indigenous communities across Canada.
