Okaikwei North Assembly Announces GH¢2,000 Penalty for Roadside Mechanics

The Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly has announced plans to clamp down on roadside mechanics and vulcanizers whose activities are affecting traffic flow, pedestrian movement, and road safety.

Speaking to Channel One News, Municipal Chief Executive Christian Tetteh Badger said vehicles abandoned on roadsides will soon be towed, with owners required to pay close to GH¢2,000 before retrieving their vehicles.

The MCE explained that the Assembly will work with the MTTD and national security to enforce the directive, following concerns over vehicles spilling onto public roads due to limited space within some workshops.

He stressed that while some mechanics operate with permits in designated areas, using public roads for vehicle repairs is unacceptable as it contributes to congestion, damages road infrastructure, and inconveniences motorists and pedestrians.
