Over 6,000 Security Service Applicants Failed Drug Test – Interior Minister Muntaka Reveals

Speaking before the Committee on Assurance in Parliament, the Minister described the situation as a growing concern and said government is taking steps to strengthen drug abuse prevention and rehabilitation efforts. He also revealed that about 1,300 applicants were unsuccessful after testing positive for HIV during the recruitment process. On the suspected gold bars and counterfeit currency case intercepted at Sapeiman, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak said the alleged mastermind remains at large. He added that persons arrested in connection with the case are before the courts, while some suspected key actors have been placed on a stoplist. The Minister further disclosed that the Bank of Ghana has destroyed the counterfeit currencies seized during the operation, while the suspected gold bars have been handed over to the Gold Board for further action.
