General Secretary of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), Dr. Joe Harrison, has also described as unwarranted comments by former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum suggesting that some university degree programmes, including Development Studies, are unnecessary.
UTAG says such remarks undermine academic disciplines and the broader role of universities in national development and knowledge creation.
The association maintains that all accredited programmes serve important academic and developmental purposes, and should not be dismissed without proper consultation with stakeholders in the education sector.
