GTEC Urged to Act on Rising Cost of Distance Education in Ghana-IFEST

The Institute for Education Studies (IFEST) is calling on the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to engage tertiary institutions over the fees charged for distance learning programmes.

The appeal follows concerns raised by Parliament's Education Committee, which questioned the high cost of some distance education programmes across the country.

Speaking to Citi News, IFEST Deputy Director Patrick Appiah Danquah warned that the increasing cost of running distance learning programmes could force some institutions to discontinue them.

He explained that, unlike regular academic programmes, most distance learning courses receive little or no government funding, contributing to the higher fees charged by universities.
