Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, Elikem Kotoko, has urged government to prioritise the re-engineering of Accra's infrastructure as part of efforts to address the capital's recurring flooding.
He argues that demolishing structures on waterways alone will not solve the problem, stressing the need for a comprehensive redesign of the city's drainage and planning systems.
His comments come as government intensifies flood mitigation efforts, with the Ghana Armed Forces set to lead a nationwide post-flood recovery and clean-up exercise, including the removal of structures obstructing waterways and drainage reserves.
Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV, Mr. Kotoko noted that rapid urban growth and population pressure have made existing systems inadequate, requiring urgent long-term reforms.
