Transport Minister Fires Back at NPP Over “Toy Locomotives” Comment

The Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has strongly criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over its description of recently procured locomotives as “toys fit for a museum.”
He argued that an administration that failed to operationalise a passenger rail service during its tenure is not in a position to undermine current efforts to revitalise Ghana's railway sector.
Speaking at the signing of a five-year cargo haulage agreement between MES Logistics and the Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA), the Minister defended the procurement, insisting that the locomotives are technically suitable and economically viable for the country's rail operations.
The remarks come amid ongoing political debate over government's investment in rail infrastructure and cargo transport expansion.
