Stanford scholar Thomas Fingar recently told CGTN's Tian Wei that American anxiety is rooted in political gridlock and fading government effectiveness. As deep polarization forces citizens to question the Constitution and national values, Fingar notes that most Americans still sit in the political middle – eager to break the deadlock through consensus and guide the country back to a pragmatic, moderate path.
