The Government has announced plans to establish one of the largest palm processing factories in Ghana within the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area in the Eastern Region.
Speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama during the 2026 Ohum Festival in Kyebi, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah said the government intends to harness the enormous economic potential of palm oil—described as the country's new "Red Gold."
According to him, the project is expected to:
Boost Ghana's palm oil value chain Create employment opportunities for young people Promote industrialisation and local economic development
He appealed to the Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, in consultation with traditional leaders, to identify and make available suitable land for the commencement of the project.
The 2026 Ohum Festival, themed "Rejuvenating Our Customs for Sustainability and Nature Connection," also featured the enstoolment of Nana Kwame Atuapong Ododobibiri as Akyem Abuakwa Amanonehene.
