The government has announced plans to complete the Catheterisation Laboratory (CATH Lab) at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) by August 2026, marking a major boost in Ghana's cardiac care capacity.
The facility will support the diagnosis and treatment of heart-related diseases and help address the rising cases of cardiac arrests in the country.
For over 70 years, KATH has operated without a CATH Lab, forcing patients to travel to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra or seek treatment abroad. The new development is expected to significantly reduce pressure on patients and improve access to specialised heart care in the Ashanti Region and beyond.
