Soboroff: America at 250 is an unfinished story

Democracies don't often get to celebrate 250 years of existence. Two-and-a-half centuries after a handful of revolutionaries declared independence from the most powerful empire on earth, the American experiment is still here. America hasn't always lived up to its ideals, but for the first time in generations, the ideals themselves are under assault. And yet, over 250 years, this country — however imperfectly and painfully — has expanded the circle of freedom.
