The government has announced plans to introduce a 20 percent Rural Posting Allowance for teachers serving in rural and deprived communities across Ghana.
Responding to questions in Parliament, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu said the incentive is designed to attract and retain qualified teachers in hard-to-reach areas while compensating them for the difficult conditions under which they work.
The proposed allowance forms part of broader efforts to improve teacher welfare, strengthen education delivery, and address staffing challenges in underserved communities.
