Top Story: Gov’t, World Bank Clash Over Stalled GARID Flood Project Funding
Top Story with Kenneth Gyasi on Joy 99.7 FM examines the growing controversy over delays to the Greater Accra Resilience and Integrated Development (GARID) project, as government and the World Bank offer sharply conflicting accounts of what has stalled the critical flood mitigation programme.
Government insists more than $10 million has been spent on the GARID project this year, rejecting claims that funding has dried up. But a new World Bank report points to fiscal control measures by the Finance Ministry as the reason contractors have gone unpaid and work has stalled through 2025.
The Minority in Parliament says the report vindicates its long-standing concerns over the handling of the project, while residents of Ologboshie, repeatedly affected by flooding, are threatening to protest if work does not resume.
Tonight, we examine:
* Government's response to the World Bank's findings * Why the GARID project has fallen behind schedule * The cancelled parliamentary joint committee hearing * Reactions from Parliament and the Finance Ministry * Why Ologboshie residents say they have had enough of recurring floods
