Chancellor Merz has criticized Germany's sick-leave rate as too high in the past and announced measures to bring it down — sparking a heated debate in the country.
Today, the governing coalition presented them as part of a broader reform package: ending sick‑leave requests made by phone and introducing the requirement to obtain a doctor's note from the first day of absence.
