WATCH: Medical Director of Solis Hospital, Dr. Ebow Daniels, speaking on “Doctor In The House”, says flood victims are at risk of post-traumatic stress due to trauma and massive losses suffered during the disaster.
He noted that many affected persons are experiencing emotional distress, sleeplessness, and psychological shock following the floods.
Dr. Daniels also warned that floodwaters are highly contaminated with sewage, waste, and chemicals, exposing communities to serious bacterial infections and disease outbreaks.
He added that illnesses such as cholera, malaria, typhoid, and leptospirosis may emerge days to weeks after exposure, while overcrowding in displacement areas increases the risk of respiratory infections.
He advised the public to seek immediate medical attention for symptoms such as fever, headache, and diarrhoea, and cautioned against self-medication.
