The Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, says the passage of the Maritime and Related Offences Bill, 2026, by Parliament will strengthen efforts to combat robbery and piracy at sea.
This follows an attack on Ghanaian fishermen by armed hijackers aboard a pirate vessel off the coast of Senya Breku in the Central Region, which left 71 fishermen stranded at sea.
Speaking to journalists, the Minister noted that once the bill is assented to by the President, it will significantly enhance Ghana's legal framework to address maritime security threats and protect lives and livelihoods along the coast.
