A new study by the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) has uncovered persistent gender inequality issues within Ghana's creative industry, including significant pay disparities and incidents of sexual harassment.
The two-year nationwide study, presented at the 2026 Behind the Scenes Ghana Project Dissemination in Accra, surveyed about 500 women working across various regions and creative fields.
According to Country Lead Professor Georgina Yaa Oduro, many female creatives reported unequal pay, workplace objectification, and instances where sexual favours were allegedly demanded in exchange for opportunities.
Despite these challenges, the study also found that most women enter the creative industry driven by passion, a factor researchers believe could support long-term growth if properly nurtured.
The findings are expected to be shared with policymakers to inform reforms aimed at improving working conditions, protecting women, and ensuring fairness within Ghana's creative sector.
