WATCH: The Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse, is leading a delegation to Samreboi in the Western Region to assess the impact of recent flooding widely linked to illegal mining activities (galamsey).
The team will tour flood-affected communities, engage traditional leaders, interact with residents at a community durbar, and visit displaced victims at temporary shelters to assess the humanitarian situation.
Prof. Klutse says the EPA will also embark on dredging polluted river bodies affected by galamsey to improve water flow, ahead of planned chemical treatment of contaminated rivers.
Authorities say the assessment will help guide a coordinated response to the environmental and humanitarian impact of the floods.
