WATCH: President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Minister for Finance to immediately release GHS 300 million from the Contingency Fund to support urgent flood relief and mitigation efforts across affected parts of the country.

The directive follows severe flooding in parts of Accra and other communities in the southern sector after hours of unusually heavy rainfall.

According to the Presidency, GHS 150 million will be allocated for immediate relief efforts to support flood-affected individuals and communities, while the remaining GHS 150 million will be used to implement flood mitigation measures aimed at reducing future incidents.

The announcement comes as authorities continue assessments and response efforts in affected areas.
