At least three people have reportedly died after being electrocuted in Alajo, within the Ayawaso Central Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, following heavy rains that triggered severe flooding.

The incident occurred on Monday, June 29, after a torrential downpour submerged homes and left many residents stranded. The victims, believed to be in their twenties and early thirties, were reportedly electrocuted while attempting to retrieve their belongings from floodwaters.

Residents say the flooding forced many households to wade through submerged areas in a desperate attempt to salvage property before the tragic incident occurred.

The disaster adds to the growing toll of the heavy rains across Accra, which have caused widespread flooding, displacement, and disruption of transport and daily activities.
