Lapaz Traders Restricted to Weekend Trading Under New Assembly Directive

The Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly has restricted trading activities on the Lapaz highway median from Monday to Thursday as part of efforts to improve safety, sanitation, and ease congestion.
Municipal Chief Executive Christian Tetteh Badger said the decision followed consultations with traders who have operated along the stretch for many years.
According to him, traders will now be allowed to sell on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, giving them time to adjust while protecting their livelihoods.
He explained that many of the traders have worked in the area for more than two decades, making an immediate eviction unfair.
The Assembly also disclosed that the long-term plan is to relocate traders into a proposed 24-hour economy market once it is completed, freeing the highway for motorists.
