'Japan is a US colony,' says Japanese writer as US sets missile on the country

While the US–Japan Valiant Shield 2026 drills roll on with American mid-range missiles temporarily deployed to Japan again, Japanese writer Yasushige Hanaika, who has spent years recording the confessions of former Imperial Japanese Army soldiers who committed atrocities in China, points out an uncomfortable truth: Japanese planes can't fly freely over their own airspace while US planes can come and go as they please.

But what worries him most? Japan's younger generation is barely aware of it.
