Lawyers for Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Wontumi), have appealed to the High Court to defer the July 3 judgment in the ongoing Akonta Mining Company Limited case.
The defence team argues that the newly appointed counsel needs time to obtain certified court records and properly prepare written submissions before judgment is delivered.
According to court documents, Wontumi's new lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, was appointed on June 19 after the withdrawal of the previous counsel, Andy Appiah-Kubi.
The application highlights concerns that without full access to case records, the defence may not be adequately prepared for the ruling.
The court is expected to consider the request ahead of the scheduled judgment date.
