Government is considering restoring the Value Added Tax (VAT) exemption on locally assembled vehicles following concerns raised by industry players.

The review comes after vehicle assemblers warned that the removal of the tax incentive has slowed production and could negatively affect investment in Ghana's growing automotive sector.

The discussion formed part of the Citi Business Festival 2026 Roundtable, which examined the prospects and challenges of Ghana's automotive industry.

Stakeholders argue that restoring the exemption could help stimulate local manufacturing, attract investment, and strengthen Ghana's position as a regional automotive hub.
