Explorco, the exploration subsidiary of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, is set to begin onshore drilling in the Voltaian Basin before the end of 2026.

The initiative forms part of efforts to explore potential oil reserves in the basin, which has been identified as having significant petroleum prospects.

President John Dramani Mahama made the announcement during the sod-cutting ceremony for Phase Two of the Sentuo Oil Refinery Project, highlighting government's renewed focus on expanding Ghana's upstream oil exploration activities.

The Voltaian Basin project is expected to play a key role in Ghana's long-term energy strategy and could open a new frontier in the country's oil and gas industry.
