GNPC to Begin Voltarian Basin Exploration Before End of 2026
President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Explorco, the exploration arm of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), is set to begin onshore drilling in the Voltaian Basin before the end of 2026.
The initiative forms part of efforts to explore and develop potential oil reserves in the region, which has been identified as having significant petroleum prospects.
According to the President, the move is a key step in Ghana's strategy to expand its energy base, increase local oil production, and strengthen long-term energy security.
The Voltaian Basin project is expected to open a new frontier in Ghana's oil exploration and could significantly boost the country's petroleum industry if commercially viable reserves are discovered.
