GUTA Urges PURC to Suspend Planned Electricity and Water Tariff Hikes

The Ghana Union of Traders' Associations (GUTA) is calling on the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) to suspend its planned utility tariff increases scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2026.

Under PURC's third-quarter tariff review, electricity tariffs are expected to increase by 3.49%, while water tariffs will rise by 0.85%.

Speaking to Channel One Business, GUTA President Clement Boateng argued that the reasons provided for the tariff adjustments are unconvincing and appealed to the Commission to reconsider its decision.

The association warns that higher utility costs could place additional pressure on businesses already grappling with rising operating expenses.
