Ayawaso North MCE Defends Maamobi Market Relocation Plan

The Ayawaso North Municipal Chief Executive, Mohammed Awal, has defended the Assembly's decision to relocate traders and residents at the Kaasuankuda site market in Maamobi to pave way for a proposed 24-hour market project.

The affected occupants have resisted the six-week ultimatum, insisting they will not move to the designated relocation site at Ayikuma in the Shai Osudoku District unless basic facilities such as stalls, electricity, water, healthcare, and security are provided.

Some residents also say they have nowhere to go and will only relocate if proper accommodation is secured for them.

However, Mohammed Awal insists the Assembly has engaged stakeholders and already secured a 10-acre site at Ayikuma, where efforts are underway to provide essential services including water and electricity.

He added that affected traders will be given priority access to spaces at the new market once completed, which is expected within 18 months, and has appealed for cooperation to allow the project to proceed.
