Muntaka Proposes Drug Tests for Public and Private Sector Workers

The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, says government is considering introducing an Executive Order to make mandatory drug testing a requirement for employment in both the public and private sectors.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, he explained that the proposal is aimed at promoting workplace safety and deterring drug abuse, particularly among young people entering the job market.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to address substance abuse and strengthen discipline within Ghana's workforce.

If implemented, the policy would require job applicants to undergo drug screening as part of recruitment processes across both government and private institutions.
