Kenya protest survivor lost his leg and his hope for change
Rodgers Mwabe Hezron, a 32-year-old taxi driver, lost his leg after being shot by security forces during Kenya's anti-government protests on 25 June 2024 — one of the deadliest days of the demonstrations. He had joined crowds carrying phones, flags and voices demanding change, but says the government responded with teargas and live ammunition. His leg was amputated in hospital. The reforms protesters called for have yet to materialise, and unrest continues.
