Stringer Dispatch: Rescue underway after devastating earthquake doublet rocks Venezuela

Two powerful back-to-back earthquakes struck Venezuela on Wednesday evening, rattling the capital Caracas and triggering a large-scale rescue operation. The US Geological Survey recorded a magnitude-7.2 quake, followed seconds later by a magnitude-7.5 jolt, near the coastal town of Moron, roughly 160 kilometers west of the capital. The devastating doublet ranks among the strongest seismic events to hit the South American nation in more than a century.

Footage from the scene, captured by CGTN Stringer, shows rescue teams sifting through rubble as emergency crews worked through the night. Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodríguez has declared a state of emergency and appointed a general to oversee the response.
