320kg Meth Hidden in Charcoal: NACOC Arrests Alleged Mastermind

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested the alleged ringleader of a drug trafficking network linked to the seizure of approximately 320 kilogrammes of methamphetamine concealed in a charcoal shipment from Ghana and intercepted in Australia.

The arrest follows investigations launched after Australian authorities announced on June 19, 2026, that they had intercepted the drugs, estimated to be worth A$296 million, before they reached the illicit market.

Speaking at NACOC's annual drug destruction exercise in Accra, Director-General Maxwell Obuba Mantey revealed that the suspect was apprehended after a three-month intelligence-led operation involving NACOC, the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), and other national security agencies.

The arrest marks a major breakthrough in efforts to dismantle international drug trafficking networks operating through Ghana.
