The Vice Chairperson of Parliament's Defence and Interior Committee, Peter Lanchene Toobu, has raised concerns about the legality of some private security organisations possessing firearms.

His comments follow the Ministry of the Interior's decision to revoke all firearm licences nationwide effective June 23, 2026, as part of reforms to strengthen gun control.

Mr. Toobu stressed that under Ghanaian law, private security institutions are generally not permitted to operate as armed entities and urged authorities to investigate any reported breaches.

He called for a thorough review of the activities of such organisations to ensure compliance with the law and to enhance public safety and accountability in the security sector.
