Minority Rejects PURC Tariff Hike, Demands 6% Reduction Instead
The Minority in Parliament has strongly opposed the proposed tariff adjustments by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), which include a 3.49% increase in electricity tariffs and a 0.85% increase in water tariffs.
The caucus argues that prevailing conditions in the utility sector show improvements that should have led to a reduction in tariffs rather than an upward review.
According to the Minority, consumers are being shortchanged, insisting that a reduction of not less than 6% would have been more appropriate given current sector performance and economic conditions.
The debate adds to ongoing discussions about cost of living pressures and utility pricing in Ghana.
