The Community Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS Court of Justice) has dismissed all claims brought by former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo against the Republic of Ghana.
The court found no violation of her human rights in the processes leading to her suspension and removal from office.
In its judgment delivered on Wednesday, the court rejected allegations of unfair hearing, bias, and violations of rights to work, dignity, and access to information.
It further held that Justice Torkornoo was not denied a fair hearing during both the prima facie determination and the subsequent proceedings before the committee set up to investigate petitions for her removal.
The court also dismissed claims regarding the improper constitution of the committee, concluding that no sufficient evidence was provided to support allegations of bias or prior involvement by its members.
