80 Chanfang Machines Destroyed in Major Anti-Galamsey Operation

The National Concerned Small-Scale Miners Association has destroyed at least 80 chanfang machines being used for illegal mining activities on the River Offin in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts to protect Ghana's water bodies from pollution and environmental degradation caused by illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.

According to the association, the machines were being used for mining activities within and around the river, posing a significant threat to water quality and the surrounding ecosystem.

The action underscores growing efforts by stakeholders in the mining sector to combat illegal mining and safeguard the country's natural resources.
