NPP Communications Team member Emmanuel Senyo Amekplenu has described the recent utility tariff increment as “highly insensitive and irresponsible,” questioning its impact on ordinary Ghanaians.

He argued that the new increases contradict earlier expectations of improved and more affordable electricity supply, especially following previous tariff reductions.

Engineer and analyst Michael Kosi Dedey also criticised the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission's (Public Utilities Regulatory Commission) announcement of a 3.49% increase in water tariffs effective July 1.

He noted that key performance conditions set for utility providers, including reducing technical and commercial losses, are not being strictly enforced.

He urged PURC to go beyond tariff reviews and focus on accountability and improved service delivery within the utility sector.
