Major Boost for Ghana Railways as New Locomotives Arrive Early

Ghana's railway sector has received a major boost following the delivery of two locomotives and 20 freight wagons for container and cargo operations, arriving 11 days ahead of schedule.

According to Frederick Appoh, preparations are underway for technical commissioning, driver evaluations, and final fit-to-run assessments before the equipment enters service.

The new rolling stock is expected to significantly enhance freight operations, improve logistics efficiency, and increase the role of rail transport in moving goods across the country.

Meanwhile, Joseph Bukari Nikpe described the acquisition as a major addition to Ghana's rail assets, noting that it will improve operational efficiency and provide a more reliable and cost-effective means of transporting cargo.

The development forms part of broader efforts by the Ghana Railway Development Authority to modernise the railway sector and strengthen connections between production centres, ports, and inland markets.
