Ofankor Barrier Floods Submerge Homes and Shops After Heavy Rain

Several homes and shops at Ofankor Barrier Spot M along the Ofankor–Achimota stretch have been submerged following heavy rainfall on Monday, June 22.

Some residents were reportedly trapped in their homes, while traders scrambled to salvage goods from flooded shops as water levels rose rapidly.

Residents say the recurring flooding is caused by choked and inadequate drainage systems, which continue to threaten lives, property, and livelihoods in the area.

Speaking to Citi News, a resident and fitting shop owner, Kwesi Ayensu Gyambrah, called on authorities to urgently desilt and expand drainage systems to prevent future occurrences.

The incident has renewed concerns over flooding along major urban corridors during heavy rainfall.
