Small-Scale Miners Destroy 80 Chanfang Machines on River Offin

The National Concerned Small-Scale Miners Association has destroyed at least 80 chanfang machines allegedly being used for illegal mining along the River Offin in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

The operation targeted illegal mining activities taking place directly within the river and along its banks, where operators were reportedly discharging waste into the water, contributing to severe pollution and environmental degradation.

According to the association, the activities of illegal miners are undermining responsible small-scale mining efforts, and it remains committed to taking decisive action to curb such practices.

Speaking after the exercise, Director of Operations Philip Bawa Ajamujobe said the operation was self-financed and carried out without any external support.
