The National Concerned Small-Scale Miners Association has destroyed at least 80 chanfang machines allegedly being used for illegal mining along the River Offin in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

The operation forms part of efforts to clamp down on illegal mining activities that continue to threaten Ghana's water bodies and environment.

According to the Director of Operations of the association, Philip Bawa Ajamujobe, the exercise targeted miners operating directly in the river and along its banks, where waste is reportedly discharged into the water, causing severe pollution and environmental degradation.

He added that the association remains committed to supporting responsible mining practices and protecting Ghana's natural resources from destruction.
