Concerns over Ghana's recurring flooding and environmental challenges have reignited debate over the appointment of key sector ministers.

Former Anyaa-Sowutuom MP, Dickson Adomako Kissi, says delays in appointing substantive Environment and Defence Ministers could affect coordination and response to critical national issues, including flooding, sanitation, illegal mining, and land degradation.

He argues that Ghana's worsening environmental situation requires urgent leadership, stronger inter-agency collaboration, and a coordinated response involving key institutions, including the military.

Meanwhile, Yendi MP, Abdul-Fatawu Alhassan, has defended the delay, stating that President John Dramani Mahama will announce the appointments at the appropriate time as part of an anticipated ministerial reshuffle.

He emphasized that the appointment of ministers remains the constitutional prerogative of the President.

The discussion comes as communities across Ghana continue to grapple with flooding and environmental degradation, prompting calls for stronger policy attention and long-term solutions.
