The Ministry of the Interior has revoked all existing firearm licences nationwide, requiring gun owners to reapply under a new licensing regime that takes effect immediately.

Announcing the reforms, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak said the move is aimed at strengthening gun control measures and enhancing public safety.

Under the new framework, applicants will be required to undergo mandatory mental health assessments, drug screening, and structured firearms training before licences can be issued.

According to the Minister, the reforms were introduced in response to concerns about the misuse of licensed firearms and weaknesses identified within the existing regulatory system.

Authorities say the new measures are intended to improve accountability, strengthen oversight, and ensure responsible firearm ownership across the country.
