What exactly happened during Kristo Asafo succession chaos that injured Adwoa Safo - Lawyer explains

Lawyer for the Kristo Asafo Mission, Nana Kofi Safo Kantanka, has clarified that the gathering which preceded the recent disturbances within the Kristo Asafo family was only meant to introduce Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena as the preferred successor to the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo and not to formally install him as leader.

Speaking on Citi FM's Eyewitness News, the lawyer explained that under the church's constitution, the Chairman of the Council of Elders temporarily assumes administrative responsibilities after the founder's death, while a process is initiated to select a substantive successor from among the founder's male children.

According to him, consultations involving all eligible candidates were conducted, after which the Council of Elders selected Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena as its preferred choice. He stressed that the event was only an introduction and that any formal installation was expected to occur after the funeral of Apostle Kwadwo Safo and following broader consensus among stakeholders.

The clarification follows tensions surrounding the succession process, which reportedly resulted in violent disturbances that left former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, with a gunshot wound.

The family of the late founder has since disputed the succession process and urged the public to disregard claims that a new leader has already assumed office.
