The Ashanti Regional Health Directorate has raised concerns over a sharp rise in suspected river blindness cases across the region.

Health officials report that cases have nearly quadrupled within a year, increasing from 46 in 2024 to 160 in 2025, raising alarm among public health authorities.

The surge has prompted renewed calls for intensified intervention measures, including disease prevention, early detection, and community education to help curb further spread.

Authorities say efforts will be stepped up to monitor, control, and reduce the impact of the disease in affected communities.
