Teen speaks out after ICE deports her DACA-recipient mother
Jessica Treviño Villegas has lived in the U.S. since the age of 7 and has valid protected status through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. Still, ICE deported her earlier this year. Treviño's daughter, Sarah, shared their story for the first time with MS NOW's Laura Barrón-López.
DHS claimed agents used “the minimum amount of force necessary” during the arrest and disputed the family's account. DHS told MS NOW that DACA recipients “may be subject to arrest and deportation for a number of reasons” and that “DACA does NOT confer any form of legal status in this country.” Sarah's father is an undocumented immigrant with no legal status.
