CUTS Calls for More Funding for Road Maintenance in 2026 Budget

Policy think tank CUTS International is calling on government to increase funding for road maintenance in the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review, citing widespread damage caused by heavy rains.

In a statement, CUTS warned that road conditions across the country have deteriorated significantly, with potholes in several areas developing into deep gullies that are disrupting traffic flow and increasing transport costs for commuters and businesses.

The organisation noted that road users are facing rising travel time, fuel consumption, vehicle repairs, and transport fares due to the worsening conditions.

CUTS further argued that temporary patching of potholes has been ineffective, attributing recurring road failures to poor drainage systems, weak road foundations, and flood damage that continues to affect already-repaired sections.
