Plastic Manufacturers Demand Extension of Styrofoam Ban to 2030
The Ghana Plastic Manufacturers' Association is calling on government to extend the deadline for the ban on Styrofoam products to 2030, citing concerns over the financial impact on manufacturers.
The association disputes the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) position that producers can easily repurpose their machinery after the ban, describing the claim as unrealistic.
According to the group, such a transition would render existing investments worthless and could lead to significant losses within the sector.
Speaking to Channel One News, President of the association, Ebbo Botwe, urged government to either extend the implementation timeline or consider compensation for affected manufacturers.
